OUR GOALS

1. Main Goals

During our creation process our central goals were to create a foam dart that would quickly bio-degrade in nature. Giving our users the ability to lose our darts without the guilt of polluting the nearby environment.

2. Life Cycle

Our project began with the realization of how frequently the cycle of “purchase, use, and lose” occurs with foam darts in foam dart gunplay. The act of shooting these darts result in them being susceptible to loss especially when used in outdoor, uncontrolled environments. Even with proactive actions to recover the darts, setting up time to search for all the darts used within a play session, it is still possible for the darts to get lost.

3. Polyurethane

Polyurethane foam is used as the main body of many foam blaster darts, and the type of plastic which makes up the tip of the dart is not publicly stated.  Both of these materials are unsustainable and environmentally harmful in their production, especially when in unmanaged environments outdoors. Biodegradability of polyurethanes and plastics in general is possible, especially with the controlled use of microorganisms, but this does not negate the negative impacts associated with these materials nor the possible repercussions to the environment that it exists in as it degrades.

4. Sustainable Alternative

Our darts are a sustainable alternative to standard PU darts and prevent major environmental harm while maintaining the nostalgic fun. It features a similar foam dart that breaks down easily without a controlled environment for decomposition, improving the reusability, durability, and general quality of the original. Our design intent is to advocate more outdoor use and create a more sustainable playing environment.
